why your resume isn’t getting interviews

I’ve given motivational speeches as a cancer survivor. I love job interviews, and used to love first dates when I was single. And I worked as a reporter that conducted hundreds of interviews with local professionals, writing their stories for newspapers like The Seattle Times. You could say I know a thing or three about putting your best foot forward on a first impression. Friends began asking me to help with the resumes since, as a writer, I had a knack for seeing the cracks.

Today, as a resume consultant who helps people not only feel empowered by their resume but also land the job and the salary of their dreams, these common mistakes always rear their ugly heads when I work with a new client. For me, they’re easy to spot and even easier to fix. But until you know the ‘why’, you might be making these faux pas too, and they might be costing you the chance to score an interview.

Your resume isn’t organized

Recruiters and managers spend less than 10 seconds scanning sometimes hundreds of applications and resumes. If your resume comes off disorganized and hard to follow, yours will be put in the trash immediately.
